New Bonhill

Ladyton Shop Public Realm design.
The EAP for New Bonhill highlighted Ladyton Ramped Stepsfootpaths, access and the public realm as being key priorities for improvement and regeneration. After undertaking a number of footpath and access improvement projects over the last few years the Trust is now focussing on regenerating the public realm around the mainneighbourhood centre in Ladyton. This is intended to provide benefits for the wider community as well as assisting to sustain these important localfacilities.

The Trust undertook a series of works to improve the public realm around the shops, library and community education centre in Ladyton with a series of ‘early action projects’ including re-painting the fencing and re-surfacing the ramped steps. In conjunction with this WDC undertook some footpath maintenance works to compliment the overall improvement works. Ladyton Shops public realm design

In addition to this Phase I also included the development of overall landscape proposals for improving the Ladyton public realm space in subsequent phases. These proposals have been welcomed by the New Bonhill Regeneration Group and are currently being considered in detail by WDC Roads with the intention that they will be implemented by the Trust in the course of 2009/2010.

Inler Park Regeneration

The Mill of Haldane has benefited from significant public investment in housing regeneration over the last four years and the Trust has supported this through substantial environmental improvement projects.Inler Park The focus has been on improving the range of opportunities for play and social interaction through a series of major environmental projects most notably the transformation of the ‘green corridor ‘ and the installation of play facilities in Brown Street. Whilst the green corridor project has continued to thrive as the landscaping matures it is with regret to report that the Brown Street play facilities have recently been subjected to serious vandalism.

This year the Trust has focussed on regenerating the Inler Park, which is an important, Inler Park Regenerationyet under used, green space resource with tremendous potential lying between the Mill of Haldane and Jamestown. This initial phase is intended to improve the image of the park with new fencing and signage at the main entrance, footpath reconstruction and installation of lighting, footbridge refurbishment and vegetation and woodland clearance. It is gratifying to see that these improvements have had almost immediate
effect with greater numbers of people visiting the park and making use of the refurbished footpath link between Haldane and Jamestown. The project was also supported by West Dunbartonshire Council who provided funding to assist with the footpath and lighting aspects of the project.

It is hoped that subsequent regeneration phases will extend the footpath network as well as
creating new opportunities for active play, sport and social interaction.
