Environment Trust - About Us images of various projects in west Dunbartonshire

The Environment Trust has developed a series of ‘Environmental Action Plans’ (EAP’s) which identify the needs and issues for particular communities and provide a framework for undertaking a programme of environmental regeneration projects. The action plans set out programme priorities for each area and are intended to assist community groups in improving their area within a strategic policy and needs context. Prior to progressing each specific project the Trust holds a series of community meetings to establish support and raise aspirations within the community. This often includes site visits to other areas, together with the involvement of other relevant partners and professionals, in response to each particular project. This is also intended to assist local residents in developing their confidence and capacity to organise and undertake projects with minimal external assistance. It is important to the Trust that the local community is at the heart of every project ndertaken as this is essential to ensure sustainable and successful project solutions.

The Trust Board is always comprised of a majority of community representatives with only one out of seven being from an agency/ organisation. This ensures that the activities of the Trust are firmly grounded in the wider community.

In addition to the Board, the Trust employs two environmental professionals to undertake a diverse range of regeneration initiatives to meet the needs of West Dunbartonshire's most disadvantaged communities. The Trust endeavours to create partnerships with relevant community and agency organisations to deliver effective and valued environmental projects.
