Environment Trust - Dumbarton - Brucehill

Brucehill Entrance Regeneration Phase II
A key element identified in the Brucehill EAP was to undertake improvements to the only access to the area. The area is also important as it is has a range of shop and take away food retailers and has been problematical due to increasing anti social behaviour and an ‘air’ of dilapidation. It was agreed with the Brucehill Regeneration Group that improved landscaping and access could
address these significant problems as well as creating a safer and more sociable space which could in turn improve the image of the area.

Phase I of the regeneration project included the reconstruction and widening of the existing footpath leading to/from Cardoss Road with an improved stairway, resurfacing of the public realm spaces in front of the shops, reconstruction of the main access footpath together with bow top fencing and landscaping adjacent to the shops and the Robert the Bruce commemorative flag pole. It is anticipated that these improvement works at the entrance to the estate will improve the image of Brucehill, both for the local community and visitors alike with the additional benefit of encouraging people to use and invest in local facilities. It is intended that the next phase of this project will consider the feasibility of refurbishing or replacing the flag pole together with further soft landscaping works.
