Environment Trust - Clydebank - Whitecrook

John Knox Street

John Knox Street is characterised by low quality and neglecJohn Knox St - Beforeted open space which adversely impacts upon the image and lifestyle of the community. The EAP for Whitecrook identified this area as being a high priority for regeneration. This project aims to regenerate the green space within John Knox Street, in partnership with WDC Housing who have contributed £3,464 towards this regeneration, and brings about positive benefits for those residents as well as providing wider benefits for the adjacent communities within Clydebank. The project is intended to addresses the lack of green space
surrounding the residential and common areas. Large areas of broken slabs and tar have characterised John Knox Street for many years, this has now been lifted and replaced with soil and grass which has softened and created spaces for children to play whilst creating a sense of well-being for residents.

Whitecrook Play Park

The Trust has worked in conjunction with the Whitecrook Play Park Group over the last four years to regenerate the park and provide a range of activities which are inclusive for all members of the community. Following the creation very successful play and sports areas, the group wished to regenerate a former derelict trim trail and cycle training area for a more positive use by providing new cycle facilities for different age groups. This project utilised the existing trim trail layout to install a new mountain bike trail which offered challenges for all levels of skill. The former cycle training area was refurbished with new ‘road’ markings aimed at providing a safe place to cycle for younger children. The project was largely funded through a grant by Glasgow Airport to the Play Group and the Trust waived it’s project management fee as a contribution to overall costs.
