Kirkoswald Teen Activity Area
The North Drumry Environmental Action Plan identified the lack of recreation facilities for young people as one of the key issues in the area. There was a particular need for play facilities for young teenagers who ‘had little to do’. This, combined with low levels of activity, poor health and issues of anti social behavior, was deemed to be an issue which was fundamental to the regeneration of Drumry.

Final Touches Final works prior to completion

Working in partnership with the North Drumry Tenants & Residents Association the Trust developed a teen activity project on the site of a former play area off Kirkoswald Drive. This site proved to be somewhat controversial with a few nearby residents raising concerns in respect of the potential impact the proposal may have on their immediate locality.

Following a series of detailed consultations the Trust however considered that this was indeed a good site as the project also involved improving a derelict area. Since completion, the area has been well received with virtually no problems resulting from its use. The project has also been regarded as a model teen play site and has generated considerable interest from other communities and Councils.

The play area was removed in early 2008 to make way for an access road for the new schools and will be relocated 50m further along the road.
