Environment Trust - Alexandria - New Bonhill
Footpath Improvement Projects
One of the key priorities identified in the New Bonhill Environmental and Action Plan was the improvement of access and footpaths particularly between the shops and facilities at Ladyton and surrounding area. With the assistance of the New Bonhill Regeneration Group new paths from Ladyton shops to the link road, including a new path along edge of the link road, were selected as offering the greatest benefit to the community.
Opened and rebuilt
This was further supported by the intention to redevelop housing at two sites in Braehead which lie adjacent to the central link road. The Trust appointed consultants URS to prepare detailed designs to undertake the implementation of these two footpath projects. In the first instance The Trust decided to focus its funding on the link road footpath as this was considered to offer the greatest benefit in terms of road safety and improved pedestrian access.
The footpath was installed and now offers a new safe walking route where previously pedestrians walked along the road.
This project was undertaken following consultation with partner organisations with a view to compliment the housing redevelopment at Braehead.
Works were carried out by the Enviro Squad and local contractors.
Future developments will include replacement of the dilapidated foot bridge and path reconstruction from Redburn to Ladyton, due to be undertaken in spring 2008.
