Whitecrook Park Bike Trail Opening

The Whitecrook Park Project has completed the next phase of play development in Whitecrook Park which has been funded by Glasgow Airport and The Environment Trust. To celebrate this, there will be an official opening of the new bike trail on Saturday 19th September 2009. The bike trail includes a re-surfaced path, jumps and ramps for all abilities and a junior section with toy town road markings. It is hoped that this will encourage local children to use their bike more and develop their skills.
Since the group was established 5 years ago, successful applications to the Trust have funded new Tennis Courts and Ball courts, along with play equipment for all age ranges and pleasant seating areas. Paths and lighting have been upgraded to create a safer place for families, children and dog walkers alike.

The Environment Trust has supported the group by providing funding and project management skills over this time period and is seen to be one of the most exciting projects in the Trust’s portfolio. To continue with this support, The Environment Trust will complete a biodiversity audit of the park with environmental improvements to follow.

Opening of the Bike Trail:

The opening will take place on Saturday 19th September 2009 11am-noon, opened by MSP Des McNulty. There will be a raffle to win a Bike – kindly donated by Evans Cycles, Braehead, and accessories, free refreshments and BMX demonstration & instruction. People are free to stay longer and experience the trail.
Oonagh Coultas of the Whitecrook Park Project said, “It’s been great working with both the Environment Trust and Glasgow Airport. They’ve given us lots of support and encouragement to make improvements to the park. We are really happy that young and old are enjoying the park. We are now looking for ideas about what further improvements we can make to our park.”

The Environment Trust Regeneration Officer, Louise McAllister, said that “members of the Whitecrook Park Project have been working hard to improve Whitecrook Park and it is great to see their aspirations and ideas take shape.”

Amanda McMillan, Managing Director at Glasgow Airport said: "We are delighted that the new bike trail is now officially opened for all to enjoy. As a local business, we were only too happy to support this fantastic community project.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate members of both The Whitecrook Park Project and The Environment Trust, who have worked extremely hard, turning this idea into a reality. As a young mum, I realise just how important regular exercise is for young children.

“I hope the local people of Whitecrook take full advantage of the bike trail and hope the new facility is enjoyed by the whole community for years to come”.
